Electric Vehicle Servicing

Electric vehicles continue to rise in popularity as they become more accessible and deliver greater driving range. This growth is partly driven by their significantly lower environmental impact compared with traditional petrol or diesel cars, as well as reduced day-to-day running costs and potential savings through discounted urban congestion charges.

If you’ve made the move to an electric vehicle, ensure it continues to perform at its best with professional electric vehicle servicing at ESP Servicing.

ESP Servicing’s EV service technicians are fully trained and qualified to carry out servicing for all makes and models of vehicles, using advanced electronic diagnostic tools to ensure accurate and efficient maintenance. In addition, all replacement parts used during our EV services meet original manufacturer standards and are backed by a 12-month guarantee for added reassurance.

For extra convenience, you can also book your EV service together with an MOT in a single, straightforward appointment.

How Is EV Servicing Different from Conventional Vehicle Servicing?

Electric vehicles can experience different wear patterns compared to cars with traditional internal combustion engines. For example, brake and tyre wear may vary. EVs are typically heavier due to their battery packs, which can lead to increased tyre wear. In addition, EV tyres are often specially designed with reinforced sidewalls to support handling and efficiency, meaning they may wear differently from standard tyres.

Because of these differences, regular inspections by trained technicians are essential. While EVs do not require engine oil changes, they may include additional components such as specialised filters and battery cooling systems that need routine checks and maintenance.

In many battery electric vehicles, the air conditioning system plays a key role in regulating battery temperature to help optimise performance and extend battery life. Always refer to your vehicle owner’s handbook for the recommended service intervals and maintenance schedule specific to your model.

What’s included in an Electric Vehicle Service?

Although fully electric vehicles do not require traditional maintenance such as exhaust system inspections, gearbox servicing or engine oil and filter changes, they still need routine specialist checks to ensure safety, reliability and long-term performance.

An EV service concentrates on the components unique to electric vehicles, including the drive system, electric motor and—most importantly—the condition and performance of the EV battery.
Regular servicing helps maintain efficiency, identify early signs of wear and protect the high-voltage systems that power the vehicle.

What’s the difference between an OE and an ESP Servicing EV Service?

Our EV Service is built to provide more than a standard manufacturer (OE) service. While an OE service follows the routine checks outlined by the vehicle manufacturer to maintain warranty requirements, our ESP Servicing EV Service is designed to deliver a broader and more detailed inspection tailored specifically to electric vehicles.

An OE service typically focuses on the essential maintenance points set by the manufacturer at fixed intervals. In contrast, our EV Service places additional emphasis on the specialist components that make electric vehicles different — including enhanced checks of high-voltage systems, battery health, charging equipment and supporting electrical systems.

This more in-depth approach helps identify potential issues earlier, supports long-term battery performance, and provides added reassurance that your EV is operating safely, efficiently and at its best.

How often should you service an electric vehicle?

Many drivers ask how frequently an electric vehicle needs servicing, and whether EVs require more or less maintenance than petrol or diesel cars.

At ESP Servicing, we recommend booking an EV Service every 2 years or 20,000 miles — whichever comes first — to keep your vehicle performing safely and efficiently.

That said, servicing intervals can differ depending on the manufacturer and specific model. Some brands suggest an annual service, while others base their schedules primarily on mileage. Depending on the vehicle, service intervals can range from around 8,000 miles to 18,000 miles, with many models commonly falling somewhere between 10,000 miles and 18,000 miles.

Electric vehicles are no exception — recommended service intervals can vary significantly between different EV models. For the most accurate guidance, always refer to your vehicle’s owner handbook or official service schedule to confirm the correct interval for your specific car.

How much does an Electric Vehicle Service cost?

To see the price of an EV service with ESP, please enter your car registration on the bookings page. This includes a full vehicle inspection, Pollen Filter replacement, Brake Fluid change, and balancing of all four wheels.

The price covers the manufacturer’s recommended labour time for completing the service, along with all required parts, fluids, environmental disposal charges and VAT — so there are no hidden extras.
