Greater convenience – No need for multiple visits or separate bookings. Our qualified technicians and certified MOT testers can complete both your MOT and vehicle service in one location, helping you take care of essential maintenance in a single appointment.

Time saving – When your MOT and service are due around the same period, they can be carried out together during one visit. Simply book online and select a date that suits you. If your service is due but your MOT is slightly later, remember you can arrange your MOT up to one month before its expiry without changing the renewal date.

Cost effective – Booking your MOT and service together online allows you to take advantage of a combined saving.

Why Both MOT Testing and Servicing Matter

While an MOT and a vehicle service might seem alike, they involve different procedures and fulfil distinct roles. Knowing how they differ highlights why having both carried out is so important.

An MOT test is a legal requirement in the UK for vehicles over three years old and must be completed each year. It is a roadworthiness inspection performed in accordance with standards established by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). The assessment checks that your vehicle satisfies minimum safety and environmental criteria. It’s worth noting that an MOT is strictly an inspection — it does not include the replacement of parts.

A vehicle service, by contrast, is a detailed maintenance check guided by the manufacturer’s recommended schedule. Its aim is to preserve performance, enhance dependability, and support a longer vehicle lifespan. Servicing includes routine inspections along with replacing components where required. Typically, manufacturers advise an Oil Service & Inspection around every six months and a Annual Service once a year.

Put simply, the MOT confirms your vehicle meets legal safety standards, whereas regular servicing keeps it operating smoothly and reduces the risk of unexpected problems.

What Does an MOT and Service Cover?

The UK MOT test follows strict guidelines set by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and involves detailed checks of important components such as tyres, lighting, braking systems and exhaust emissions. You can review the full breakdown of inspections included in the MOT test.

The content of your service depends on the package selected. An Oil Service & Inspection focuses on essential safety inspections alongside an engine oil and filter change, making it particularly suitable for vehicles that cover higher mileage. An Annual Service includes more in-depth engine bay checks, a comprehensive brake inspection and replacement of the air filter. This option is generally recommended once a year to help maintain peak vehicle condition. Discover the full details of our service packages.

MOT and Servicing for Electric Vehicles

For electric vehicle owners who want to combine their yearly maintenance without paying dealership prices, ESP Servicing offers a dedicated MOT and servicing package tailored specifically for EVs. All work is completed in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule. Servicing your electric vehicle with ESP Servicing will not invalidate your warranty, as we use OE-equivalent parts and approved maintenance procedures.

What Do You Need to Bring to Your Appointment?

Please bring your locking wheel nut key with you, as this enables our technician to remove the wheels to complete important brake inspections during your service. If you would like your service book stamped after the work is finished, remember to have it available. Keeping your service history fully updated can help protect — and in some cases enhance — your vehicle’s resale value.

You do not need to provide your existing MOT certificate, as MOT records are stored electronically on a central system.

Where practical, we suggest removing items such as dashcams and satellite navigation devices from the windscreen if they restrict the driver’s field of vision. It is also advisable to take out any child seats from the rear seats beforehand. Although this is not compulsory, leaving a child seat fitted may limit access to rear seat belts for inspection and could lead to a minor issue (formerly referred to as an advisory) being noted during the MOT.

Accessing Your MOT Certificate Online

You are not required to bring your MOT certificate to your appointment, as previous documentation is generally not needed to complete a new test. That said, keeping copies of earlier MOT certificates can be useful — especially if you intend to sell your vehicle.

You can view and download past MOT certificates at no cost through the official UK government website. Certificates for MOT tests conducted in England, Scotland, and Wales from 2005 onwards are available by entering your vehicle registration number along with the 11-digit V5C document reference number listed in your log book.
