HID Bulb Replacement
Previously, mostly found in high-end vehicles, High Intensity Discharge (HID) bulbs are now commonly installed as standard in many cars.
It is estimated that nearly a million vehicles on UK roads already use HID bulbs. For this reason, ESP Servicing now stocks replacement HID bulbs suitable for fitting to a wide variety of vehicles. Please note that standard halogen headlamps cannot be converted to HID bulbs as this would result in an MOT failure. Vehicles fitted with HID headlights (excluding motorcycles) must also have headlamp cleaning systems and automatic beam-levelling controls.

Are HID bulbs better than standard bulbs and LEDs?
As noted earlier, vehicles fitted with conventional headlights cannot be converted to HID systems, so the decision usually depends on the type of lighting installed when the vehicle was manufactured.
Xenon HID Technology
The initial voltage required to ignite the gas can reach around 26,000 volts. Although it is possible to replace HID bulbs by carefully following proper instructions, if you are uncomfortable working with such high voltage, visit ESP Servicing where our trained technicians can replace them for you.
Xenon HID bulbs, sometimes referred to as metal-halide lamps, may appear slightly bluer than traditional lighting but remain legal within approved limits. Blue bulbs are generally acceptable for off-road use, while other colours may not comply with road regulations. Because HID lighting systems can be complex, it is advisable to consult professionals to ensure the correct, road-legal lights are installed on your vehicle.
